It's Tough in New York

My father first coined the phrase "It's Tough in New York' in an old home video from 1987.  Watch a portion of the video here:

I've started using the tag line in many conversations.  If anything ever goes wrong, I know why. Because it's tough in New York. That's why.   Maybe all of the toilet paper ran out, and there is none left.  I will then let people know of my misfortune and tell them that it's tough in new york.

Sometimes people hear me say that it's tough in New York, and they just give me a strange look.  I hope that in writing this, it'll clarify some of the confusion I have caused.

I actually have influenced some of my friends to say that "It's Tough in New York."   For example, just the other day my friend got into a car accident on the highway because it was blizzarding a bit.  She texted me and told me that it was a tough day in New York.  I agreed. That is tough. Real tough.  But she's a alive. And because New York is so tough to live in, she has become tougher too.

if you live in New York, you have probably experienced how tough it can be to live in the state.  The weather is erratic.  Sometimes there is crime. The governor is pretty blind. Taxes are high. You know. That is tough.

But we can all find what we love in New York.  State parks. the fingerlakes. the empire state building, mount marcy. many friendly people. stellar skiing. summers we can savor until the fall. so many trees. good education.

Living in New York makes you a tougher person. (How can shoveling 35.93 feet of snow not make you tougher?)  I think New York is great because so many people that live here are willing to overcome the obstacles that they face.

This is one obstacle i may face sometime this spring;  If it rains at the park i decide to go to for the day, that's tough.  But if I find a way to make the situation better, I become tougher.

Maybe you aren't from New York.  I just need to warn you.  it's tough here.  You have to be tough in order to survive.  But I believe in you.  If you decide to come here, just be tough.  Conquer the toughness of New York!

And if you see me ever.  I'll tell you, and my dad will too, "It's Tough in New York."
